UK Superbrand Arcadis will extend its title sponsorship of the Great CityGames Manchester into 2018, following the success of this year's event.
The live, city-centre athletics competition is a headline date in the city's packed sporting calendar. Since its inception in 2009 the event has brought some of the biggest names in international sport to the city including Olympic heroes Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford.
The Arcadis Great CityGames Manchester will take place on the evening of Friday 18 May on the purpose-built sprint track on Deansgate and in a pop-up athletics arena in Albert Square in the heart of the city.
Jonathan Moore, Arcadis City Executive for Manchester, commented: “The Great CityGames is quickly becoming a staple of Manchester's proud sporting heritage.
“Continuing our association with this world-class event underlines Arcadis' commitment to help make Manchester an exciting, healthy and prosperous place to be.”
Nicky Homes, Commercial Director of event organisers the Great Run Company, said: “We are delighted to have Arcadis on board once more as title sponsor of the Great CityGames Manchester.
“Like us, Arcadis believes people should be proud of and be able to celebrate their cities, we're thrilled their staff and partners enjoyed the event so much this year and look forward to welcoming them back in 2018.”
The Arcadis Great CityGames Manchester is completely free to spectate, taking athletics out of the stadium and on to the streets. It will give thousands of spectators the opportunity to experience the sport from a unique perspective, while showcasing the best of Manchester live on BBC One and BBC One HD.
The event is part of a packed weekend of sport in the city that includes thousands of runners of all abilities taking on the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run, which offers a 10K and half marathon distance.
